Update on Cycling infrastructure projects in Kelowna

Sutherland Avenue Protected Bike Lanes

The Sutherland Avenue protected bike lanes are designed to be a safe and attractive corridor that can be enjoyed by everyone. It runs parallel to Harvey Avenue and extends from Abbott Street and Pandosy Street in the west to the Parkinson Recreation Centre and Landmark Area to the east, making it a safe and attractive east-west walking and cycling corridor.

Features include:

  • A two-way street-level cycle track separated by a median from traffic
  • Existing boulevards, sidewalks, curbs and gutters
  • Existing parking on the south side will be retained

This project is now in the detail design phase, with construction set to occur in 2019-2020.

For more details, click here.

Bernard Avenue Bike Lanes

Starting Summer 2018 and ending Fall 2018, this project will add bike lanes on Bernard Avenue, between Lakeview Street and Ethel Street and will connect to the existing bike lanes to the east.

Update on the Okanagan Rail Trial

It’s getting closer! The Okanagan Rail Trail is schedule to officially open this Fall.

For now, work is progressing on the Kelowna section to UBCO, and the trail is still marked as closed. Parts of the trail on the Lake Country & north Okanagan sections may be marked closed for rock scaling & environmental work. Phase 1 fundraising is expected to be complete by the end of June.

For more specific information on trial construction, use, access, and opening dates, check out the Okanagan Rail Trail Facebook page here to find the contact details of the correct person to speak with in your municipality.
