smartTRIPS School Programs
smartTRIPS provides resources and programs to support schools throughout Central Okanagan to encourage students and families to walk, bike and take transit to school.
Clean Air and Safe Routes 4 Schools is a program in Central Okanagan to increase participation in active transportation, reduce the number of motorized vehicles used for travel to and from school and reduce school emissions.
Cleaner Air 4 Schools Program. This program raises awareness about air pollution, encouraging staff and parents to take up sustainable travel over time. The Air pollution lesson is delivered by the teachers and includes five classroom activities suitable for students from grades 3 to 6. The PAC/School administration could share Appendices 2,3 and 4 with the school community.

Bike Rodeos provide cycling education and safety training and take place each spring at elementary schools throughout the district. Following Bike Rodeos, smartTRIPS coordinates Bike and Walk to School Week in Central Okanagan. All schools are invited to participate and can win great prizes!
The Class Rides Free program provides free travel on the Kelowna Regional Transit System for class trips (up to two per year, per class) for all schools within Central Okanagan!
International Walk to School Week is an external program that helps schools to promote walking to school in a fun and supportive environment. The Walking School Bus is a school or PAC-led initiative that supports families and encourages walking to and from school in a group environment.
