NOTICE:

APPROVALS WILL BE GRANTED ON A CASE BY CASE BASIS AND WILL BE DEPENDANT ON GROUP SIZE, TRAVEL TIME AND ROUTES. SIGNIFICANT DEMAND IS OCCURRING ON MANY TRANSIT ROUTES.

The Kelowna Regional Transit Class Rides Free Program provides youth with an opportunity to learn more about local transit through first-hand experience. By familiarizing them with the transit system at an early age it is more likely that they will consider transit/responsible transportation choices into adulthood. The Class Rides Free Program is available to teachers in School District 23, and each class is permitted travel by transit for two class trips per year. Select trips may also granted for organizations that provide out of school programming for youth.

Transportation is a leading contributor to green house gas emissions and is a major cause of poor air quality in our region leading to poor health and a reduced quality of life for all of us in the Central Okanagan. By choosing transit and other sustainable forms of transportation we can all do our part to protect the region we love.

How do I sign up?

To participate in the program, complete the online program application form. Applications must be received two weeks prior to the scheduled trip. Teachers are asked to plan their trip using the transit schedules and maps available on the BC Transit website.

Please note that travel approval will only be granted for trips taking place between the hours of of 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Group sizes are to be limited to a maximum of 30 (including chaperones) fo travel on routes served by full sized buses and 20 for routes served by smaller community buses. Further group size and travel time limitations may apply to trip requests for travel on busier routes (e.g. 1, 6, 8, 97) during certain times of the day.
