News Release

It’s time to gear up for this year’s Bike to Work and School Week, which runs from May 27 to June 2.

The kickoff event will take place at Stuart Park from 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. Participants and residents are invited to join the celebrations where there will be breakfast, coffee, prizes and a speech by Kelowna Mayor Colin Basran at 8 a.m.

“I look forward to seeing lots of people out on their bikes, having fun and going the extra mile to reduce greenhouse gases,” said Mayor Colin Basran.

Six Celebration Stations, including the kickoff event, will be hosted during the week throughout the Central Okanagan. At the stations, participants can enjoy free refreshments, bike checks and yoga. There are also opportunities to enter the prize draw for the daily bike giveaway and other great prizes.

Local sponsors and community partners are also hosting a number of satellite stations throughout the week across the region.

Twenty-nine schools have signed up to participate in this year’s Bike and Walk to School week. People driving in school zones are reminded to always be vigilant around students and parents who may be biking or walking to school.
