2016 Bike to School results

Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time to be a Team Leader at their school. Your enthusiasm was contagious as we have very impressive results this year thanks to your hard work!

Congratulations to all the Central Okanagan schools  and students that participated in Bike & Walk to School Week 2016!

Team Leader Carol Gordon from Bankhead Elementary won a new bike!

  • Total number of schools that submitted results: 29

  • Total number of students that participated: 3,174

  • Kilometres to and from school using smartTRIPS methods: 33,630                                               

  • kids on bikesOverall participation rate: 38% (a new record!)

  • Greenhouse gas emissions saved: 7,800 kg.

New Cyclists: 424 (a new record!)

School Prize Winners

The results are in! Here are the overall school winners based on participation rates (number of students that rode their bike divided by number of students in the school).
 

 

Small school category (under 400 students):

1st place: Bankhead Elementary with a 60% overall participation rate commuting approximately 481km in 481 round trips.

Prize: Kids bike and helmet and  Subway lunch for a class, bike tune up ( Play It Again Sports ), 30 $5 GC's for Goji's Frozen Yogurt , 3 Bike to School shirts, plus a 2-night stay at Accent Inns (for Team Leader).

Runner Up: Glenrosa Elementary with a 60% participation rate commuting ? 805km in 671 round trips

Prize: Kids bike and helmet, and bike tune up ( Play It Again Sports ), five $5 GC's for Goji's Frozen Yogurt , 3 Bike to School shirts.

 

Large school category (over 400 students):

1st place: Chute Lake Elementary with a 69% participation rate, commuting 3,286km in 1,643 round trips. 2nd year in a row!

Prize: Kids bike and helmet, Subway lunch for a class, bike tune up (Play It Again Sports), 2-month Jiu Jitsu training (First Strike) for one student, 30 $5 GC's for Goji's Frozen Yogurt, 5 Bike to School shirts,  plus 2-night stay at Accent Inns (for Team Leader).

Runner Up: Dorothea Walker Elementary with a 56% participation rate, commuting 2,378km in 1,189 round trips.

Prize: Kids bike and helmet, bike tune up (Play It Again Sports), five $5 GC's for Goji's Frozen Yogurt, 5 Bike to School shirts.
 

West Kelowna:
 

1st place: Helen Gorman Elementary with a 62% participation rate, commuting 1,053km in 702 round trips.

Prize: Kids bike and helmet, Subway lunch for a class, 3 Bike to School shirts, plus 2-night stay at Accent Inns (for Team Leader).
