2015 Bike to School results

Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time to be a Team Leader at their school. Your enthusiasm was contagious as we have even more impressive results this year!

Congratulations to all the Central Okanagan schools that participated in Bike & Walk to School Week 2015!

Total number of schools that submitted results: 30

  • Total number of students that participated: 3,564

  • Kilometres to and from school using smartTRIPS methods: 41,914 km (17,818 one-way trips) 

  • Overall participation rate: 32%

  • Greenhouse gas emissions saved: 9.7 tons

The results are in! Here are the overall school winners based on participation rates (number of students that rode their bike divided by number of students in the school).

 

Small school category (under 400 students):

1st place: Springvalley Elementary with a 65% overall participation rate commuting 2,888 km in 722 round trips.

Prize: Kids bike and helmet, Subway lunch for one class, AG Superstore $25 GC (x2), Goji's Frozen Yogurt $5 GC (x30), BTSW T-shirts, 2-night stay at Accent Inns (for Team Leader)

2nd place: South Rutland Elementary with a 62% participation rate commuting 1,112 km in 556 round trips

Prize: Kids bike and helmet, AG Superstore $25 GC (x2), Goji's Frozen Yogurt $5 GC (x5), BTSW T-shirts

 

Large school category (over 400 students):

1st place: Chute Lake Elementary with a 67% participation rate, commuting 3,060 km in 1530 round trips.

Prize: Kids bike and helmet, AG Superstore $25 GC (x2), Goji's Frozen Yogurt $5 GC (x30), 2-month Jiu-Jitsu training for one kid (age 5-12) at First Strike, Subway lunch for one class, BTSW T-shirts, 2-night stay at Accent Inns (for Team Leader)

2nd place: Casorso Elementary with a 62% participation rate, commuting 2,802 km in 1,401 round trips.

Prize: Kids bike and helmet, AG Superstore $25 GC (x2), Goji's Frozen Yogurt $5 GC (x5), BTSW T-shirts

 

West Kelowna:

1st place: Glenrosa Elementary with a 59% participation rate, commuting 1,004 km in 669 round trips.

Prize: Kids bike and helmet, AG Superstore $25 GC (x2), Subway lunch for one class, BTSW T-shirts, 2-night stay at Accent Inns (for Team Leader)

Draw Prize Winner
Black Mountain Elementary and Kelowna Christian Elementary School won the random draw for two kid’s bikes with helmets, and Team Leader Mary Berg from Dorothea Walker Elementary won the adult bike.
