2014 Bike to School results

bike to school week brochureThank you to everyone who volunteered their time to be a team leader at their school. Your enthusiasm was contagious as we have even more impressive results this year!

Congratulations to all the Central Okanagan schools that participated in Bike & Walk to School Week 2014!

  • Total number of schools that submitted results: 22
  • Total number of students that participated: 4,000
  • Kilometres to and from school using smartTRIPS methods: 45,831 km (10,448 round-trips) 
  • Overall participation rate: 36%
  • Greenhouse gas emissions saved: 10,500 kg (10.5 tonnes)
  • New Cyclists: 112

School Prize Winners

The results are in! Here are the overall school winners based on participation rates (number of students that rode their bike divided by number of students in the school).

Small school category (under 400 students): Oyama Traditional School with a 67% overall participation rate commuting 396 km in 198 round trips
Prize: A new bike, seven Bike to School Week shirts, two $25 gift certificates for AG Superstore, and Subway lunch for one class!

Runner-up: Springvalley Elementary School with a 61% participation rate commuting 2,200 km in 555 round trips
Prize: Subway lunches for their winning classes, t-shirts, gift certificates, and water bottles!

Large school category (over 400 students): Casorso Elementary School with a 53% participation rate, commuting 8,352 km in 1044 round trips.

Prize: A new bike, seven Bike to School Week shirts, two $25 gift certificates for AG Superstore, and Subway lunch for one class!

Runner-up: Glemore Elementary School with a 48% participation rate, commuting 4,400 km in 1,100 round trips.
Prize: Subway lunches for their winning classes, t-shirts, gift certificates, and water bottles!

Schools awarded this year choose their prize winners out of all their participants. Good luck!
